Our General
Dentistry Practice provides the following services.
Digital Radiographs
Downtown Dental Centre uses digital radiography (x-rays), resulting in 90% less radiation than traditional x-rays. Digital x-rays allow us to magnify, rotate, and adjust images for contrast, making it easier to diagnose issues and create treatment plans that you can see on the screen in front of you.
Dental Implants Dental Implants are a remarkable advancement in dental science. Implants
are permanent restorations used to replace missing teeth. They can
replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth, or even to stabilize a
full denture. They are an attractive alternative to more traditional
treatments providing greater stability and security and giving you the
natural feeling of your own teeth. If you would like to
read more information on dental implants see

TMJ Treatment
TMJ stands for the temporo-mandibular joint more commonly known as the
jaw joint. When people say they have TMJ, they really mean they have a
TMJ problem.

treatment.
Orthodontics Orthodontics
or "braces" have become ever more popular as both teenagers and adults
realize how important a winning smile is. Although this is largely
viewed as straightening teeth, there is actually a good deal more than
just placing the teeth in the optimal position.
Orthodontics is often the second phase of
TMJ Treatment. Once you have recaptured the disc in phase l, the teeth do
not fit together or you will find your teeth do not bite together without
the splint in your mouth. Orthodontics is done to move the teeth to support
your jaw joint in its new and healthy position. Wide arches, straight teeth
and healthy jaw joints make a winning smile!
Functional Jaw
Orthodontics
Through functional jaw orthopedic
dentistry, we focus on developing a stable bite, healthy jaw joints, an
aesthetic profile, and a full, wide, beautiful smile in our young clients.

cases in which functional appliances have positively impacted appearance and
overall health!
Periodontal Therapy
Proper hygiene care and regular checkups is key to maintaining healthy
gums and teeth. Periodontal disease is a common oral infection. Gum
disease is a painless and slow progressing disease that destroys the
bony support of the teeth, and because it doesn't usually hurt, most
patients aren't aware they have this problem. Early
diagnosis and treatment is very important! Our hygiene department will
schedule regular recall appointments to prevent periodontal disease from
developing. For more information see The Canadian Academy of
Periodontology at

Restorative Dentistry
There is nothing more beautiful than a natural healthy smile. We can restore
your smile to an attractive, functional state with crowns, tooth colored
fillings, porcelain bridges, and other precision fit restorations. We are
dedicated to making durable, natural, long lasting restorations.
Endodontics Occasionally, a tooth's nerve chamber will become infected, requiring a
root canal to save the tooth. This treatment cleans the infected chamber
and repairs the damage, saving your natural tooth. Our office utilizes a
procedure that is both comfortable and completed in less time than
previous methods.
Whitening System
Our customized take-home whitening kits are easy to use and great results are achieved in 2-6 weeks. Call our office to learn more about our teeth whitening options.
Snoring Appliances
Snoring can affect your ability to concentrate and focus during the day and
can result in a decreased libido. Worst of all, studies show that there is a
correlation between snoring and an increased risk of stroke, heart attack,
and brain damage. Some snorers require a sleep study and treatment with a
CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine while they sleep but
often a less invasive oral appliance can be made for you, which may result
in a better night’s sleep for everyone. The appliance moves the jaw forward,
thereby pulling the tongue forward and allowing greater space for the
passage of air.
At an initial consultation, Dr. Dodds will meet with you to discuss the
severity of your problem and suggest possible treatments. If he thinks an
oral appliance will help alleviate your snoring, an appointment is made to
have impressions of your teeth taken (or it can sometimes be done the same
day as your consultation if you decide to go ahead with treatment). A lab
will create the appliance and we deliver it to you with any instructions you
may need. A 3-week follow-up appointment is made so we can make any
adjustments or suggestions for further success. The approximate cost of
total treatment, start to finish, is $1000. For more information go to
www.somnomed.com.
