Benefits Of Drinking Water

There are so many important reasons to drink your 6-8 glasses of water per day, but in regards to your teeth, here are the top rewards:

  1. It washes your teeth and helps to prevent plaque from building up. Have a glass of water on hand as you eat. Having a few sips helps to wash down the bacteria. If you are eating or drinking things that can stain your teeth such as blueberries, coffee, tea, or red wine, have a glass of water as well. It helps to keep those things from sitting on your teeth and discoloring them. (Sugarless gum, as well as cheese, are also good helpers in this regard.) Water also helps to wash away any acid from those drinks so decay can’t get started.
  2. In some cities, water contains a low dose of fluoride, which is there for oral health. Regina is adding it to their water system in 2025. Fluoride is a vitamin for your teeth. It helps to keep them strong and prevent decay.
  3. Keeping hydrated helps to decrease dry mouth. Having a dry mouth is uncomfortable. It also leads to bad breath and decay as bacteria is staying on the teeth and in the mouth rather than being washed away.
  4. Water helps prevent gum disease, which left untreated, results in bone and tooth loss. Gum disease is also linked to other systemic diseases such as heart disease.
  5. Drinking water helps your digestion. If you are properly digesting your food, it keeps all of you healthy – including your teeth!
Water is nature’s best gift for our overall health. Your mouth is the gateway to your health, so go on, have a drink! Your mouth will thank you by providing healthy teeth and gums – as well as a beautiful smile!
