Tips For Better Oral Health From Your Dentist

Easy Tips by Your Dentist

Since we are all confined at home with the current Covid-19 crisis, we have decided to share some tips on how to keep a healthy mouth until your next visit to your dentist . These are easy steps to include in your day to day routine to ensure a maximal oral health.

1: Brush Your Teeth Every Night

The main recommendation is to brush your teeth twice a day, but some people forget to do so before going to bed. Any dentist will tell you the same thing, brushing your teeth at night is good for your oral health because it helps you to get rid of the plaque and germs that you have accumulated during your busy day. If you have any questions about the importance of brushing your teeth before going to bed, don’t hesitate to talk with your dentist.

2: Don’t Rush It

Take your time, not brushing your teeth properly is almost the same as not brushing them. You should take your time and move your toothbrush in circular motions (the most efficient way to get rid of plaque). If you leave plaque in your mouth, it will most likely harden and lead to gingivitis and other buccal diseases.

3. Think About Your Tongue

Your tongue is not immune to plaque, every time you brush your teeth, you should also brush your tongue. Forgetting to do so might cause bad breath or even further oral complications. It’s a small step that can get rid of big problems before they show up!

4. Flossing is as important as brushing

A lot of people who brush their teeth regularly forget that flossing is as important as brushing. You should not see flossing as a way to get rid of little pieces of food that are stuck between your teeth but more of a way to reduce plaque and help combat low inflammation. If you floss only once a day you will be able to benefit from all those advantages, ask your dentist for more information.

5. Consider mouthwash

You should think about adding mouthwash to your oral care routine. Some people might be intimidated by all of those steps but it’s really easy and not too long. The mouthwash helps mainly children and elderly people who might not have the full ability to brush and floss. It is a great way to reduce the acidity of your mouth and to clean areas that might be harder to brush (closer to the gums).

You should ask your dentist for more information about the different types of mouthwash spec and about prescription mouthwash.

Ask your dentist for specific mouthwash recommendations. Certain brands are best for children, and those with sensitive teeth. Prescription mouthwash is also available.

6. Don’t forget the water

Drinking water is still the best beverage for your general health and that includes your mouth! Drinking water is a great way to stay healthy but also to clean your mouth after each meal. Your dentist  will tell you, that drinking water will help get rid of the negative effects of acidic food, sugary food, and sticky food. It’s a great way to ‘’clean’’ between brushes.
