5 Reasons for Regular Dental Hygiene Appointments for Denture Wearers

If you have an upper or lower denture, dental implants, or perhaps have only a few teeth remaining, here is why you still should meet with your dentist and hygienist regularly.

1. We’ll thoroughly clean your dentures and ensure they are in proper shape.

2. Lower teeth require more scaling (cleaning) as bacteria settles on the lower teeth more than the upper, so having an upper denture doesn’t mean half the work for the hygienist.

3. ‘Scaling’ or cleaning of implants is necessary. We assess the health of the surrounding tissues, as infection will cause the implants to fail. They are actually more complicated than natural teeth for the hygienist to clean because of the design of them. Four month intervals are often recommended for implant patients.

4. The health of your gums is crucial to overall good health. We will assess their health and offer advice if necessary, on how to improve it.

5. The dentist will do a thorough exam each year and have new x-rays taken to ensure all areas of the teeth are in good shape.

Think of dental hygiene appointments like maintenance for your vehicle. If you want your mouth to ‘run smoothly’, you need to have it cared for by professionals a few times per year. These appointments will help ward off the larger costs and time allowance for repair work.
