Like many professionals, dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants in Regina or anywhere in the world are all required to continue their education throughout their careers. Their respective Colleges or Associations mandate how many hours of continuing education are needed per year, and what kinds of courses are acceptable to fulfill those hours of learning. At Downtown Dental Centre as dentist in Regina we encourage our staff to engage in a variety of learning opportunities so that we can provide a well rounded experience for all our patients, no matter what their dental needs are. Last week we were fortunate to have attended several workshops and seminars.
Our entire staff greatly enjoyed a workshop on the Kolbe Index, lead by Warren Barry of Instinctive Solutions. Warren lead us through the process of discovering what our natural instinctive ways of operating are, and we were surprised to learn that both our dentist Dr Dodds and myself (his wife, Gayle) are both ‘quick starters’! We have many ideas to share with our staff, but incredibly (and thankfully!), our staff are all strong on ‘fact finding’ and ‘follow through’, so they can temper our ideas and help us decide whether or not they are in fact things we want to be changing or addressing in our practice. Cool!
Our hygienists just returned from their annual dental hygiene conference feeling invigorated and motivated to do even more for their patients. In particular, they focus on the educational aspect of their job; getting the patient to understand the importance of regular maintenance and how best to treat their mouth. They also attend regular seminars with local presenters such as periodontist, Dr. Jill Bashutski of Cityview Periodontal Centre. She is a wonderful resource person for speciality areas such as maintenance of dental implants. Regina is fortunate to have Dr. Bashutski, as she is both a talented clinician and an excellent educator.
Dentist Dr. Dodds’ has many interests so he attends continuing education courses on dental implants, full mouth restorations, Invisalign orthodontics, frenectomies, and dental surgery. He has travelled to England, New York, Seattle, Toronto, and many places in between, to learn from some of the best clinicians the dental world has to offer. The dental profession allows for some wonderful learning opportunities and he always returns inspired about his work and his patients.
We believe education is the key to longevity and enjoying the work you do, no matter what that may be. Engage in your career and all it offers!
