Ahh,… insurance. We love it; we hate it. But do you understand your dental benefits and make the most of them? Oral health is related to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and the list goes on. Inflammation and disease in your mouth is both a symptom and a cause of many diseases. So what can you do?
Brush twice a day, floss (yes – flossing is important!), rinse, and see your hygienist and dentist at least twice/year. If you notice your gums are bleeding, come in soon. It is a sign that something needs to be addressed.
Now back to insurance…everyone has different benefits, so look online or bring your book in and we can help answer your questions. Generally patients are covered for one complete exam every year and the ‘cleaning’ or scaling varies between plans. Important to know though, is the units of scaling are usable anytime within the year (with majority of plans).
If major work is needed such as a crown or root canal, we will send a predetermination to your company along with an x-ray. They will inform you about how much they will cover and then you can call us to book. And remember, we now offer direct billing for your dental work, so you only pay the difference of what is not covered by your insurance provider.
